At $4 a day, the reserve oversees a number of tours, escorting its visitors to the most traditional form of vacationing in the Yucatan. Canal and Bird-watching excursions provide a non-restricting means to explore habitats diverse of the flora and fauna, 103 mamalia, and 336 bird species that inhabit Sian Ka’an.

Price: $70/person. Transportation is provided to and from ME Cancun and other resorts of the Cancun hotel zone. The reserve limits its patronage to 12 people a day and recommends visitors bring a swimsuit, towel, and sunblock.

The Biosphere spans 75 miles, north to south, making up nearly one third of the Caribbean coast of Mexico. By visiting the reserve and taking any one of its tours, a typical Cancun vacation becomes personalized, something as unique as Sian Ka’an itself.

It had got to the point that I was actually embarassed how it looked and was reluctant to add new material, partly due to hating the look and also because the navigation system was about as full as it could get.

One thing is 99% sure though and that is this storm will become Hurricane Dean sooner or later and possibly go as high as a Category 3. Several of the forecasted models put the Yucatan Peninsula in it’s path at the moment, but we are going to have to wait several more days before it’s time for panic stations.

I find the choice of name a little strange as it seems that the hotel have been trying to lose their “swingers hotel” label for some years now, and I’m not sure the new name Temptation will help with this. That said they do have a new General Manager and maybe the name change reflects a future change in direction. I certainly hope not but suppose we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Fat Tuesday is now located at Embarcadero, which is right by the tall observation tower and next to where the pirate ships depart from at Km 4.5 or so. The new place is smaller and not on the beach, but it’s a nice location to watch the sun go down and see the watercraft as they cross from the lagoon to the ocean. As far as I can tell it’s the exact same concept as the old place, they are also part of the 2 for 1 meals discount card so check it out next time you’re in the area.

These little beasties are not lice at all, rather they are the microscopic larvae of the thimble jellyfish. The larvae get between your skin and your bathing suit and cause large red welts to appear that itch like crazy. Given that it’s the areas that your swimsuit hides that are affected it’s not nice at all.

Last week we were doing one of our regular booze cruises to Isla Mujeres and we came across about twenty or so ribbons of the adult jellyfish, you can see one pictured above left. The ribbons were about 6-10 feet wide and stretched as far as the eye could see.

I thought I’d better get a couple of entries in before the end of the month as it’s been 3 months since I last updated. I’ve said it before and, no doubt I’ll let things go again, but I am going to try to post more often. The blog is still receiving around 60/100 visits a day so I ought at least write something for people to read.

I think part of the problem was I was writing too many long entries and messing around editing and uploading photos and videos. A “quick” 10 minute post often ended up taking half an hour or more, and became a bit of a chore.

I’ll try to post shorter more snappy articles and not insist on a photo with almost every post, as I used to. In fact, I’m going to set up half a dozen or so blog entries right now and then let the auto post feature publish them over the next week or so.

So, hang around and check back for hopefully a more frequently updated Cancun blog.
