Back ‘Home’ Again… Eventually

July 16, 2006 on 8:33 pm | In All, Home Life |

Well, after what turned out to be almost 5 weeks of vacation we are back in sunny Cancun. We had a great trip over to England, the only downside being England’s performance in the World Cup - forever the underachievers.

Besides that, we spent a lot of quality time with my family who we rarely get to see. It was especially good to see my nieces and nephews who all fell in love with our daughter Daniella. The weather was good and we enjoyed lots of BBQ’s and were also there for my sisters twins 3rd birthday party. Of course, my Mum also did a top job in feeding me (I’ve put on 10lbs) and putting up with my moaning and griping. Love you Mum!

Besides the fun stuff, we also tried to get some practical things done, banking and pension stuff, getting my dodgy leg sorted out (well partially anyway) and making the first steps towards Jannets British Passport. We had some success with more of these than others.

Back to Cancun and Brant picked us up from the airport in my car, which had been parked at his place while we were away. First problem was I couldn’t call him after we landed as my Mexican cellphone had run out of credit while I was away. It was only after we’d passed immigration (where we were put to the head of the queue due to not being tourists) and customs (where we were waved through without our luggage being scanned) that we could buy a card and recharge the phone.

Brant arrived and I dropped him off at his place and then we went to get gas. Filled up with gas and turned the ignition on ….. nada. The battery was flat, not sure how it wasn’t flat before but it was now. A kind Mexican sought some jump leads and after refusing a tip we were on our way back home to be greeted by Jannets Mum who had stocked our fridge for us.

All in all a 20 hour journey door to door, not much fun especially with a toddler - although she was as good as gold.

  1. Steve - if I’d known you were in the ‘home’ country, I’d have tried to look you up. You no doubt had your hands full with family commitments, etc. Ni modo. Felicidades on this blog initiative… and for the blogroll link :)
