A Coconut called Wilma

April 14, 2006 on 10:42 am | In All, Cancun News, Home Life |

Just short of 6 months to the day since Hurricane Wilma hit Cancun and stayed for 30 hours, Cancun is back to its former glory with white sand beaches recently restored and now bigger than they have been for many years. Unfortunately, there are already signs of Mother Nature taking some sand back from certain areas. One thing that Mother Nature has taken care of is the vegetation though. Hurricane ravaged plants and trees were showing signs of regrowth within days.

I picked up a fallen coconut from the road outside Blue Bay Getaway just 4 days after the hurricane. I thought it would be fun to try and grow the coconut as a long standing reminder, and also to chart it’s growth against the growth of our daughter Daniella.

 Coconut

The pic on the left shows Daniella and the coconut on October 25th 2005. Daniella was just over 10 months old at the time. 6 months later, you can see the progress of both has been noticeable. Dani now 16 months old has not quite kept pace with the coconut, but both are thriving well - as is Cancun.
