Nearly all Cancun night clubs now open

March 19, 2006 on 7:33 pm | In All, Cancun News |

After Wilma ravaged Cancun and decimated the tourist industry overnight, progress has been remarkable. With Spring Break currently in full swing and hundreds of students from all over the world, living it up, they are not being disappointed. As has seemed to be the case, clubs and bars have seemed to open up in batches. Senor Frogs and Bulldog being the latest batch of clubs that opened this weekend. Neraly all major nightclubs are now open, the exceptions being La Boom and Pat O Briens.

The first club to open after the hurricane was Basic (formerly known as G Spot) which opened in November. As Christmas approached their came a flood of new re openings with Dady O and Dady Rock hosting big parties on their reopening night. At the same time Corona Bar, Lucky Monkey and Congo Bar reopened. The Cancun party center was hopping once again providing more than enough entertainment for the locals and the tourists who by Christmas had began to trickle back.

January saw a period of uncertainty with many of the larger clubs looking like they would never open. Slices, Fat Tuesday and Carlos N Charlies being the major venues to open that month.  Rumours persisted over the re opening dates of the big boys such as The City, Coco Bongo, Bulldog and Senor Frogs.

February, with Spring Break just around the corner brought more certainty. Tourists were coming back to Cancun in droves and those places that weren’t open kicked it up a notch and began to rush to open. Margaritaville opening in mid Feb. Coco Bongo, despite suffering a small fire shortly before, reopened Feb 22 with a huge party with lines that stretched hundreds of yards. The City announced they would re open March 3rd, and they did so in style with Paul Van Dyk, the famous DJ, headlining the show.

Spring Break began and work at remaining venues increased in pace. Finally at the weekend of March 17th Bulldog and Senor Frogs adding to the Cancun party options.

Work proceeds at a pace at Pat O Briens, and they should be open within the next week

The only casualty from Hurricane Wilma seems to be La Boom. There has been no work done at La Boom since the hurricane. Rumours have persisted for years of their financial problems and it looks like they have finally decided to call it a day. La Boom will be sadly missed by me as one of my favourite Cancun clubs.
